Highly cost-efficient paperless ticketing expedites checkin and boarding procedures.
Spanair wanted to Put on a completely paperless ticketing system, following the publication by IATA of a mobile boarding standard based on two-dimensional codes.
¬ Reduce costs for check-in and boarding procedures
¬ Expand and streamline Spanair’s customer service
¬ Increase customer convenience
¬ Provide travellers with greater flexibility
¬ Offer an innovative way of easy check-in
Spanish carrier, Spanair S.A., has introduced in 2007 an entirely paperless
ticketing service enabled by the EXIO scanners and following the publication by IATA of a mobile boarding standard based on two-dimensional (2D) codes. Instead of paper boarding passes, passengers receive a 2D code on their mobile phones as text message (MMS, EMS and SMS), which functions both as ticket and boarding pass. Prior to travel, this 2D code is scanned by the EXIO at the airport terminal check-in desks and security points and validated through the use of an online database. This system offers quick transactions that reduce lines for passengers.
Spanair is the first airline in Spain to offer its passengers mobile check-in. To date, this system enabled by the EXIO technology is running in eleven Spanish airports, initiating a service that could save the airline industry up to $500million each year.
With the widespread installation of the streamlined and convenient service across Spanish airports, Spanair estimates that 800,000 of its passengers will make use of the mobile boarding pass facility in 2009 – some 10% of its total ticketing transactions.
Passengers who opt for this convenient mobile delivery service will be able to control over their time thanks to shortened check-in queues and waiting times as well as enjoy all the benefits of modern travel – flexible, simple and paperfree.
